Empowering Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl People
for a Sustainable Future

In May 2018 the Federal Court of Australia made a determination in the Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl native title claim. The determination included exclusive or partial native title possession of land and sea country covering more than 11,600 sq km on the middle Dampier Peninsula. These determinations recognise native title rights for the Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl, Nimanburr and Nyul Nyul people and the determination was celebrated on country at Beagle Bay in May 2018.

At its authorisation meeting on 6th July 2018. Gogolanyngor Aboriginal Corporation was confirmed as the Prescribed Body Corporate by members of the Native Title Claimant group.

The meeting also elected directors for the proposed Registered Native Title Body Corporate (RNTBC).

Beneficiary Fund -  At the Special General Meeting held in May 2024, members were asked to fill in a survey of the future priorities of a Beneficiary Fund. Over 150 surveys have now been received and results will be tabled at the next meeting of Directors.  These results will form the basis for the development of the Policy and rules of the Beneficiary Fund.

May 2024

A Special General Meeting of members was held on 8 May 2024.  At that meeting, members were undated on progress and current status of the substitution of Waardi and Guumbaar, an update on progress of projects and announcement of approved funding agreements. The Chair also advised that monies held by Guumbarr in investment accounts had been released in the previous month and that each current member would receive $500 (on completion of an application), to support cost of living expenses.  A number of members noted that there had been inadequate communication from the PBC and the need to better communicate with members.  We hope the establishment of this website will go to partly address this issue.
